With the growth and revival of the work atmosphere this year after a wave of a global pandemic, everything is going through a restart mechanism. People are laying more stress on their work-life balance- an issue that didn’t gain much appreciation in recent years. It is now a known fact that being busy does not conclude that you are effective. Hence, time management is gaining crucial importance in building your career this year. This article will explore the idea of time management and how you can link it with your daily routine to remain effective.

There is much potential associated with time management and you can gain that potential by assessing your present routine on the basis of a single idea, whether the thing which keeps you busy at the moment will yield any positive results. It is called the “activities to results” approach. You can achieve this by managing your “To-do Lists” or “Time tables” to segregate your activities. Think about your day as a large pie which you can precisely divide into different activities and reap benefits from proper management. High-performance people who are leading the majority workforce in any country tend to maximize performance by dividing their day into different sectors and giving every sector its due attention.

You can use different mind tools to enhance efficiency in your routine. For example, you can adjust and modify your environment according to your work which will help you stay organized. In the modern work culture, there is much emphasis on this aspect as the number of start-ups increases, their success is mostly dependent on how they manage the people associated with their platform. Hence the idea of sustainable progress can be attained by creating a suitable environment. When you are organized, you can touch more areas that will help you gain knowledge and be aware of what is going on around you.

A concept that will help you to attain proper development is prioritizing your tasks. This can be a little tricky as most people suggest, you focus on the tasks at hand which can be less important than the ones which will actually benefit you. You will have to match your daily activity level with your tasks and try to cover the tasks that are more important when you are active. Give the tasks proper attention and do not procrastinate.

The famous American President Dwight D. Eisenhower formulated a principle to deal with such situations. It is famously known as “Eisenhower’s Important/Urgent Principle.” According to this principle, there are some tasks that are important while other ones are just urgent. How to differentiate between the two types of tasks? The important tasks are the ones that help you achieve your personal or professional goals. On the other hand, the urgent ones are the tasks that require due attention but mostly they are benefitting others. The urgent tasks, if not completed properly, have immediate consequences while the consequences of important tasks are not that immediate but these usually are severe.

Now that you have understood the basic outline of this famous principle, there are many ways in which you can implement such a principle in your routine to prioritize your tasks. There are four types of activities in which you can categorize all of your tasks.

  1. Activities that are important and urgent.
  2. Activities that are important but not urgent.
  3. Activities that are not important but urgent
  4. Some of the activities are just distractions as these ones are not important and not urgent.

There is not a standard according to which tasks can be common among different people. Some activities that might be important for you may not be that much necessary for other people. But there are some tasks that are common among a large number of people. These tasks can be common because of the same religious background, or you work for the same organizations. Such common tasks are usually important and urgent as they are generally implemented to maintain discipline in a society or environment. Therefore, while managing the time, you have to give such tasks their proper share in your routine.

Another important thing you can look for while managing your time is to set smart goals which are both long-term and short-term. When you have a rough idea of where you are headed, you can manage time easily. A concept called treasure mapping can help you out in this case. You can set goals that are more rewarding and this can help you to remain motivated. If you have seen those treasure maps, you have noticed that they show a physical representation of how to acquire treasure in cut-off places. With that map in hand, a person looking for treasure remains motivated to fight and goes through unseen challenges to acquire that treasure. You can develop a similar approach to your life. Some of these goals can be your life goals while others can be temporary and related to your present atmosphere. Nonetheless, you will have to set goals if you want to truly manage time and avoid unnecessary activities.

With the world constantly investing in innovation and development, it is becoming baseless to live a life without proper time management. When you divide time between different areas daily, you can focus on your personnel well being. It can take some effort to start living an organized life, but it is never too late.
